Patsy Stone, co-founder, tells us all the story of the charity house Christmas cake from a few years ago. A lovely gesture that didn't quite go according to plan!

You can find the transcript of this video at the bottom of this blog post.
Want to help us make the Young People's Christmas Day meal super special this year?
A donation of a Christmas cake (bought or made!), Christmas Chocolate Log, mince pies or puddings of some sort, would be really lovely and go down very well across our two charity houses in Newbury Berkshire. All donations are very gratefully received and we thank you in advance for your generosity. Best wishes, Patsy x

I thought I would share a story from Christmas a few years ago.

As some of you know we have a live in more mature person living with our Young People. We had just taken on a mature lady who’s CV said she could amongst everything else Cook! Apparently she was a good cook and cake baker. A real Mary Poppins! She requested that as a team building exercise she bake a Christmas cake with the Young People.

I purchased the ingredients and let her borrow my cake tin. When I called round I was greeted by very excited Young People. Come and look at our Christmas cake. As I entered the kitchen our new person announced. I hope its ok as I didn’t know how to work the oven! So I grilled it for 3hrs!

My heart sank to my boots. When I peered into the tin. It was more like a very flat burnt fruity pizza. They marzipan and iced this flat hard crust. Even decorated it!

I purchased them a shop cake as a backup just in case they couldn’t bite into the home made cake. After Christmas they were all very grateful for my cake gift to them.

Needless to say unfortunately there wasn’t much that this lady could do so we had to let her go.
